The disability pride flag was updated in 2023 to feature a straight diagonal banner of five colours on a dark background — a slight yet meaningful evolution from the original design. The updated flag is more accessible and inclusive, with muted colours, straight stripes, and softer angles

The flag's colours were muted to reduce nausea triggers for people with migraines and to make it more accessible for people with colour blindness.

The flag's zigzag stripes were changed to straight diagonal lines to make the flag less likely to cause a strobe-like effect on screens, which can be uncomfortable for people with migraines, seizures, and other conditions. The stripes also represent solidarity among different disabled communities.
